4/15/2023: The National Council on Public History has again selected Dr. Delia Hagen as the winner of its Excellence in Consulting Award. This award "recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of public history through consulting or contract work," and specifically honors Hagen's “innovative and exhaustive work" on the history of Black Montana: "unparalleled in completeness, exactitude, and intellectual rigor ... ties Montana places with our many human experiences in compelling and exciting new ways. ... provides a framework that complicates Montana history ... reveals what had been hidden for too long ... both exhibits exhaustive intellectual rigor and assists the public in understanding not only Montana’s Black history, but also state and national history contextually. "
10/09/2022 The Vernacular Architecture Forum has awarded the African American History on the Mining Frontier: Virginia City, MT National Historic Landmark project its 2022 Orlando Ridout V Fieldwork Fellowship.
9/23/2021 The Vernacular Architecture Forum has awarded the Mapping Black Wyoming project its 2021 Orlando Ridout V Fieldwork Fellowship.
5/29/2019 The Vernacular Architecture Forum has honored the Montana African American Heritage project with its 2019 Buchanan Award. This award recognizes "exceptional projects that set new standards or model innovative practices in the study and preservation of vernacular architecture and the cultural landscape."
9/28/2018: The American Association for State and Local History has honored the Montana African American Heritage project with its 2018 Leadership in History Award of Excellence.
